It turns out the issue was the wifi network I was using had port blocked everything except 80, so LND couldn't connect to anything. A warning indicating a general network failure would be helpful. I didn't try "Delete neutrino data" until your suggestion because sounds scary, like I might lose funds. Might be worth rephrasing so users feel more comfortable trying that in their self-diagnosis steps.

When my ISP told me the app was required to activate my modem, I wasted an hour of their tech support teams time by telling them I "didn't have a phone" and made them set it up instead.

Most clients support delete as a function. It's up to the relays and other people's clients whether to honor your delete request or not, so far they all do. But nothing can stop someone from saving a copy. It's a convenience, not a guarantee.

The biggest adoption hurdle imo is usability. There's a million apps, all of them have one rough edge of another, people are constantly saying you need to pick relays but there's no good definitive way to do so, media upload is difficult or impossible, DMs don't work for many users etc.
